This is the lobby of the new Gramercy Park hotel in New York City. I think it's safe to say that it's on its way to becoming one of the most extraordinary public spaces in New York. It was designed by Julian Schnabel (the NY artist famous for his broken plate paintings) and is owned by Ian Schrager (formerly of the Studio 54 nightclub, now a hotel magnate). I was here to interview Schrager, who must be worth $100m but hangs out in a scruffy T-shirt and jeans. When he approached me I thought he was one of the builders.
We're talking serious art, here. That's a Cy Twombly on the left wall. There are some huge and magnificent Schnabels. It's like walking into a billionaire's mansion. As if the Museum of Modern Art had emptied its collection into Buckingham Palace..
Schrager is famous for his lean, minimalist hotels (think Morgans in NY and the Delano in Miami). But he sold the chain for millions and has turned his back on monochrome. He's going for voluptuous instead.
About half of the hotel's 80 rooms opened this week at a reduced rate while they finish the decorating, train up the staff and sort out the service. It will eventually cost a minimum of $500 a night, but you can sneak in this month for less than $250. Sounds like a bargain to me.....

We tried blowing hookah smoke at it at first but we couldnt light up the smoke well enough, i need some sort of spotlight instead of just some weak assed flashlight

The Palace of Fine Arts is beautiful during the day but even more beautiful at dusk. My first nightshot attempts of the palace were done well into the night so the sky was all black, which I didn't like. This time around. I made sure I was there as sun set. My only gripe was that I wish the fountain was lighted also. Also, the ripples from the fountain and the breeze didn't allow for crispier reflections off the water of the lagoon.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:6
Adversity is something that I wish I could live without. Sometimes I think that if I could just be a better person and obey God completely, then He would remove all of the hardships and difficulty that seem to surround me.
I’ve learned that God allows and uses adversity in my life to grow me spiritually. The Bible teaches in Psalm 34:19 that Believers should expect adversity, but that we can also rest in God's promise to deliver us from it completely.
I need to have faith and trust in God’s word that He is allowing adversity in my life to bring me closer to Him. My response when I start looking at my adversity from God’s perspective is to humble myself under His hand, and trust fully His promise to deliver and exalt me in due time. The great news is that I know and trust through personal experience that God always keeps His word.
Did this picture catch your eye? Maybe it wasn’t an accident
In Isaiah 55:11, God says that wherever He sends His word it never returns empty, but always achieves the special purpose for which it was sent. Perhaps God sent this word to you today?

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
Have you ever felt like you have failed so many times in your spiritual walk that God has abandoned you? Oftentimes we seem to convince ourselves that unless we can live up to God’s perfect standards that God will have nothing to do with us. The truth is, we are all sinners except Jesus Christ and none of us can live a perfect life in this fallen world.
God’s plan for His children while we are here is to change us to become more like our Lord, Jesus Christ. He is the potter and we are the clay. We want things to happen now, but He knew us and chose us before time began and everything is going perfectly according to His plan.

45 MPH SPEED LIMIT sign: shot up, cut up, tricked out, "seated" and lit.
One of my shot-up roadsign photographic sculptures
So a representative of the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum www.memphisrocknsoul.org dropped off a retired/surplus chair from Hard Rock Cafe on my front porch. I had accepted a call for artists for the museum's "Musical Chair" art auction. My "shot sign" art (see my set) had nothing to do with music, but I welcomed the challenge. I removed the seat from the chair and then spraypainted the frame/back a metallic silver with an overlay of white, which I sanded down to a chalky screen (borrowed from affected shabby chic). Then I took a fragment from a 45 MPH sign (only the number was left) that I had also shot up with .000 buckshot (12 ga.) I misted the sign with black spraypaint, cut a couple of larger holes in the sign, spray-mounted a facsimilie of a Dusty Springfield single label (Son of a Preacher Man) over one of the large holes, then.....hell, I'm getting tired of writing all the specs. Here's the fun part abou the 35mm slide film mounted underneath the sign:
.45 Rounds pre-Millenialist (R.P.M.), portrays a hero's journey in photographs: Satan has foul plans for Memphis in May, and we're not sure if the Illuminati are for us or against us, and whether all the Left Behind novels are just a smokescreen. At the darkest hour, one of Elvis' "helpers" dons his spangled cape and steps into the fray with the spirit of Dusty Springfield watching over him. But will they be helped, or hurt, by the mysterious Pyramid People?
The piece came with a card bearing the following DISCLAIMER:

Op art, also known as optical art, is used to describe some paintings and other works of art which use optical illusions. Op art is also referred to as geometric abstraction and hard-edge abstraction, although the preferred term for it is perceptual abstraction. The term "Op" bears resemblance to the other popular movement of the 1960s, Pop Art though one can be certain such monikers were invoked for their catchiness and not for any stylistic similarities.
"Optical Art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing."[1] Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.

Darmstadt is a city in the Bundesland (federal state) of Hessen in Germany. As of 2005, its population was 139,000. The city is located in the southern part of the Rhine Main Metropolitan Area.
In the beginning of the 20th Century Darmstadt was an important centre for the art movement of Jugendstil, the German variant of Art Nouveau. Annual architectural competitions led to the building of many architectural treasures of this period.
Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture and design that peaked in popularity at the beginning of the 20th century (1880-1914) and is characterized by highly-stylized, flowing, curvilinear designs often incorporating floral and other plant-inspired motifs. More localized terms for the phenomenon of self-consciously radical, somewhat mannered reformist chic that formed a prelude to 20th-century modernism include Jugendstil in Germany.
named after the avant-garde periodical Jugend ('Youth') and Sezessionsstil ('Secessionism') in Vienna, where forward-looking artists and designers seceded from the mainstream salon exhibitions to exhibit on their own work in more congenial surroundings.
